The Hispanic LGBTQ contingent is always enormous at Capital Pride. The D.C. area is home to one of the largest Hispanic communities on the East Coast, and one of the most diverse — including people from all over Central America, Mexico, the north of South America, and the Caribbean.

Capital Pride is Washington, D.C.’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, and questioning annual parade and festival.

In 2010, the parade was on June 12 from 6 to 8 PM. Usually, I take photos at P Street NW and Dupont Circle. In 2010, I decided to take photos at P and 14th Street NW. Bad decision: The parade was so long, I ran out of light at the end!

157/365 I am…Cute
s i c

Bild von -mrsraggle-
Well I asked the fiancé to sum me up in one word beginning with C and rather unimaginatively he said ‘cute’.

So here’s a photo of me looking cute.

Actually, the high-key here was done totally in camera (and not by accident) and the whole shot is SOOC! Save for a square crop. I might be getting the hang of this camera malarkey.

A couple of random facts about me beginning with C:
Clumsy. I am incredibly clumsy, infact I think I get clumsier by the day. I’m always walking into things and forever dropping things always accompanied by a loud curse!
Compulsive. Defined as: someone who feels compelled to do certain things. I rash buy things. I almost always regret it later.
Cranky. Always in the morning, when I’m hungry, and when I’m tired. Also, when I can’t find anything to wear. When I think the house is untidy and somehow that’s all Mike’s fault, when he does all the tidying and a lot of the cleaning so it’s quite obviously not his fault.
Crybaby. I cry at everything and anything. TV, songs, films, an old couple eating in silence in a restaurant. You name it, I cry at it. I’m sure Mike finds it one of the most endearing things about me seeing as he very rarely cries. Maybe once or twice in our whole relationship.

Blimey, I seem to have concentrated on the negatives there! I’m also colourful, creative, cute, cheerful, and a chocoholic.

And, I have poor colour coordination

For FGR – I am.
For TRP – Alphabet Fun.
For TOTW – Extreme High Key.

CHANUTE LOSES
LAST SURVIVOR
OF CIVIL WAR
______
T. N. Samuels, a Resident Here
45 Years, Dies Four Months
After Wife
______

Chanute’s only remaining “boy in Blue,” Thomas N. Samuels, answered taps this morning at his home, 402 South Ashby, at the age of 94 years.
Feeble and in ill health for many months, the aged veteran who saw action in the field as a private in Company A, of the 121st Ohio regiment, had told friends on various occasions that he realized he had not long to live.
His hands and legs trembling the aged veteran mustered enough strength to take part in Memorial day services here last May. He sat quietly throughout this hour-long ceremony, but leaned forward alertly and strained his dimmed eyes and defended ears to catch what the speaker was saying.
“I’m ready to go now,” he told a friend at the ceremony who wished him additional years of life and strength.
He was too feeble to lay a wreath on the G. A. R. monument at that time, but two stalwart World war veterans escorted him to the statue, where in parting he offered a salute to the monument that symbolized his buddies who departed before him.
In recent months he had remained closely at home under the care of his housekeeper. At times he visited with friends, but he had difficulty in hearing and seeing them, and he seemed to realize, his friends said, that he was merely marking time.
Mrs. Samuels died last May 22. They were married June 6, 1876, at Wellington, Mo., where Mrs. Samuels had been reared. They came to Kansas, locating on a farm near Eureka, and about 45 years ago moved to Chanute.
Survivors are a son, Allen Samuels, Moline, Ill., and two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Bowman, Kansas City, and Mrs. Elizabeth Ross, Los Angeles. Four grandchildren and a great grandchild also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Roy S. Gibson funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Eugene N. Duty of the Christian church will be in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood.

Bild von scott361
I bought this from an estate sale a year or so ago because I liked the interesting historical aspect. This particular plant is quite old and I wonder just how far back it actually goes.

The George S. Patton, Jr. Historical Society:

"The Cattleya General Patton Orchid has an interesting history.

Clint McDade, founder of Rivermont Orchids in Signal Mountain, Tennessee originally registered this hybrid as Cattleya Joseph Stalin after the Russian dictator. As Stalin’s murderous exploits against his own people became known during World War II, McDade realized his mistake in naming a beautiful orchid after a hateful, vicious, murdering communist. In an attempt to rectify his mistake, McDade contacted the Royal Horticultural Society and begged the society for permission to change the registration name on the hybrid.

In this single, unique case, the RHS agreed and Rivermont was allowed to change the name of the orchid to Cattleya General Patton in honor of the great American general, who at the time was kicking the hell out of the Nazis."
